What’s the Adrenaline GTS 24 all about?
The Brooks Adrenaline GTS line has long been the go-to for runners seeking balanced support without sacrificing comfort and responsiveness. As the stability sibling to the wildly popular Brooks Ghost, the Adrenaline GTS 24 continues to offer a ride tailored for runners needing just a bit of guidance, while still appealing to those who prefer a more traditional feel underfoot.
Let’s dive into the updates in the latest iteration, covering its new upper design, upgraded midsole and outsole system.
There are four key changes to Adrenaline GTS 24:
1) Sleek new upper
The Adrenaline GTS 24 sports a fresh new engineered double jacquard air mesh, elevating the overall appearance, while also being more breathable through the forefoot and medial midfoot. Runners who enjoyed the feel of the previous model, the Adrenaline GTS 23, will find a similar amount of overall padding in the heel collar and tongue.
One notable difference in the upper design, however, is the continued absence of a gusseted tongue. While some runners may miss this feature, Brooks has compensated by adding two small loops along the eyelet chain. This adjustment helps to keep the tongue secure, mimicking the function of a gusseted design and prevents movement.
Brooks are continuing to commit to width options in the Adrenaline GTS 24 by making it available in four width options for both men and women. This is something Brooks does incredibly well, making this shoe accessible to many different foot widths and shapes. Fit wise, we find the GTS 24 to fit true to size so you should have no troubles going the same size as the previous Adrenaline.
2) Adrenaline gets DNA LOFT V3 treatment
The most significant change in the Adrenaline GTS 24 is in the midsole. For the first time in this series, Brooks has introduced their full-length DNA Loft v3 midsole foam, a nitrogen-infused material known for being both responsive and cushioned. We’ve seen this midsole in a number of Brooks models such as the Glycerin 21, Ghost Max 2, and Ghost 16 and we’re glad to see it move into the Adrenaline series.
Brooks has kept the stack height of the Adrenaline series unchanged for a number of years and its same goes for this year. However, Brooks have added an extra millimetre of stack underfoot, but reduced the outsole thickness by one millimetre. This subtle tweak gives the shoe a softer feel underfoot without additional bulk, maintaining that familiar lower stack feel that many Adrenaline fans love.
3) Tweaks to stability
The Adrenaline GTS series is well-known for its GuideRail system, which provides subtle support for runners who may need a touch of medial guidance. Brooks have been using this support system for a number of years and have fine-tuned this system in the GTS 24, smoothing out the GuideRails to make them less noticeable. We find this will still work really well for runners and walkers seeking really mild stability, but also neutral runners who enjoy the Adrenaline’s stable platform.
We’ve seen a lot of stability models evolve and change the midsole geometry and adopt a wider midsole platform, particularly through the midfoot. The Adrenaline GTS 24 has also followed this, now featuring a little more surface area through that midfoot. The result is improved stability and complements the updated softer midsole in the GTS 24.
4) Redesigned outsole
Finally, the outsole of the Adrenaline GTS 24 has been completely redesigned to include Brooks’ RoadTack rubber, a compound that's made from recycled materials which is both softer and more durable than previous outsole materials used on the Adrenaline.
Another outsole change is the three forefoot flex grooves on the GTS 23 have now been filled in on the GTS 24. This new outsole pattern will provide a touch more stiffness and structure under the ball of the foot, but remain that traditional feeling ride. Even though the outsole has been completely overhauled, we think the Adrenaline GTS 24 will still remain an excellent option for runners and walkers who want a durable option and the lifespan should be similar to previous Adrenalines.
Nathan’s final thoughts
The updates to the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 bring a fresh, modern feel to one of most reliable stability series on the market, without losing its classic feel. If you've enjoyed the Adrenaline GTS series, the 24 will feel like a familiar shoe but with an overall softer and more comfortable experience.
We find the Adrenaline GTS 24 will still offer runners a traditional daily training experience that separates itself well from the higher stack, more cushioned big brother, Brooks Glycerin GTS 21.
